Home Warranty or Not?

We came home on Saturday night after an evening at our in-laws and found our heater had stopped working.  It was 62 degrees in the house at the time.  Sunday morning the temperature was 56 degrees and here in the picture you see we got it to come up a little.

I’ve been nursing a part in our furnace for a couple of years now as it would just gum up a little and by adding a little oil it would work fine for months.  Well, that part is completely dead now and the replacement part is $400.  OUCH!  We could just replace the furnace as it’s probably 15 years old now but that would run around $3,000.  $400 beats $3,000 any day for me.

Thankfully we have a fireplace and a few electric space heaters that seem to be keeping the chill off for us.  I guess this is another reminder that a home warranty may have been a good choice for us.
